Family Update - November 2005

Well, it's been a while since I wrote anything about my family. I'll take a few minutes and update you. I've been back in town since early Tuesday morning. I spent the rest of the week making up for the time I spent traveling, and in class the previous weekends. I'll go back to work this coming Monday. I've been away from work since October 21st. As a side note, I just found out from a cousin that someone in my family is on the academic advisory board for SANS. SANS is the security training institution I attended last week in L.A. It turns out that my cousin Terri Coleson's husband, Jay Coleson, is tightly knitted in with SANS. I found this article on the SANS website. In this article, he wrote about maintaining documentation for SOX compliance. Pretty cool stuff! As Terri wrote in an e-mail, Jay finally has someone else in the family to talk about this 'stuff' with. I've got a lot to learn about IT Security, so it won't be hard to go over my head pretty quick. In other family news, Cary ended her first semester [a while back] of the COTA program with A's and B's. She was really excited and didn't think she could pull it off. She and her classmates are under constant pressure. She's got a few out-of-town seminars coming up in a few weeks. At least once a week, and many times more than once a week we have one or two classmates spending the night helping each other out. It's pretty tough on 'family time'; we don't have any!! Cary's Maw is getting worse by the day. She has hung on a lot longer than anyone expected. Please keep her in your prayers. Also, as if the budget wasn't having a hard enough time, our heating / AC unit went out. We had problems with the heater last year, but was able to fix the problems with an inexpensive part. This year, the part that failed went above $300. We decided it was time to put in a new unit, so I called up a repair man and had him install a new 4 ton Rheem. Once the unit was installed, the weather went back into the 80's. Go figure! Tanner is doing well in school. No major catastrophes as of late. Next year, he'll start kindergarten at Norphlet Elementary. Look out Norphlet school system!! Tanner has a little furry play friend now. We kept a puppy from CC's last litter. Tanner and Gizmo have fun playing in the yard. I posted a picture of Gizmo on flickr. He's a cute little thing. That about wraps it up for this issue of the family update. If I left anything out, shame on me. I've gotta go put the curtain climber to bed. Until next time...
